Being bored is almost like a sickness. No matter how much you don't want to have it, it hits right when you least expect it. Unfortunately for Eryn, she had given the sickness most commonly called: boredom. So, when worst comes worst, what did Eryn do? One word. Library. It wasn't like she had planned it. Besides, she kind of wanted to come. She was in need of a new book, more like a new friend.

When she took her first official step into the library, a warm air surrounded her and almost made her feel comfortable. It was hard to deny, but Eryn really liked books. She had a habit of reading almost anything you gave her. As long as it sounded interesting, you'd find it in her hands. She took a nice, long look around and found that it was quite empty. It was too surprising, but Eryn couldn't help but wonder why. She started taking a few steps inside, even flashing the librarian a sweet smile. Some people had always tried their best to avoid her, but she was a nice person. Sometimes.

Eryn made her way to the packed shelves in the children's section. Why you ask? Well, Eryn was in the mood for being a kid. They had some good books. You can't deny that. Usually, when she wasn't there, you'd find her in the sci-fi section or some other part of the library that some people usually never took the time to visit. So, back to the Eryn. She walked along the walking space in the aisles and ran her finger through the books, trying to see if there was something she could take home with her. As far as it looked, there was nothing, but what could she do? Eryn sighed, maybe a bit loudly, and kept her eyes on the books, hoping to find something, anything to get time passing.

Zeke hated the little reminders he received every day, making sure that he didn't forget how he was a new kid. So he needed a book for one of his classes. No big deal. Go to the library, find some suitable literature, check it out and be well on his way.

But no. Oh, no. It couldn't be that simple. Because he was new.

He got lost on Laurel's enormous campus, searching for the library. He found a teacher, asked her desprately for directions, and she managed to point him in the right direction. Zeke, being Zeke, got lost again and it took another twenty minutes before he somehow stumbled into a large, spacious room with tons of book shelves. And books.

Needless to say, he was feeling a bit grumpy because, well, getting lost wasn't really a favorite past time of his. It didn't even occur to him that he would be presented with a whole new area to get lost in: the library itself. So many shelves and sections and categories, it made his head spin a little. Due to pride and shyness, Zeke couldn't bring himself to ask the librarian where the World War II books were. No, he couldn't simply make his life easier by asking someone who knew this library like the back of their hand.

Then again, Zeke was a teenager, so he had to make everything just as difficult as possible.

He began to wander around the library, basically aimlessly, eyeing bookshelves and other things. He noticed that the library wasn't completely empty, and he noticed a girl examining the shelves. He gave her a werid, quizzical look, because it seemed that she was looking at kids' books.

To each his own, he thought, as he continued to stare.

Eryn couldn't help but notice that something, more like someone had been staring at her. At first, it was a feeling, something like a sixth sense. She thought that she was just imagining things. But as she took a look around her, he realized that she was right. Someone had been staring at her.

The more that Eryn took notice of the guy that was standing right there, she realized that the stare had come equipped with confusion. She could already tell that he was freaked out by her, or at least weirded out. Sometimes, Eryn had that power. She didn't even have to do anything and they already judged her. Although it can't be helped, Eryn hated the thought of being judged.

She took a nice, long look at the guy and tried to make out his face. Maybe she knew him, but that was unlikely. Although Eryn had been here for all her life, she hardly got to see anyone. She was always busy with other things. As the moments of silence passed by, Eryn couldn't think of anything else then to say something, anything just so that it wasn't so quiet. "Hi there," she said, giving the boy a semi-sweet smile.

Zeke faltered when she addressed him. Had he really been staring at her that long? Zeke had the habit of spacing out easily, so time became slightly distorted. But he was giving her some odd looks because of her placement in the kiddie book section. He wasn't good at being 'subtle' about these kind of things. He smiled weakly and waved. For some reason, talking didn't appeal to him right now. But, of course, Zeke decided to do so anyway. "Oh, hi. Uhm. I'm just...looking for a book."

Well DUH, Sherlock, he scorned himself silently. Of course he was looking for a book. He was in a library for crying out loud. What else would he be looking for? A car mechanic? A banana split? Geez. His bizarre nature still managed to throw him some sucker punches here and there. He really needed to work on his social skills, if anything. It was his worst flaw by far and his most important. It usually wasn't but the fact that he was flung into a place where he knew no one, establishing friendly relations was necessary to ensure his happiness here.

He hoped he could distract the girl from his blurb by introducing himself. He laughed awkwardly. "I'm Zeke. I haven't seen you around before." He felt relieved that he at least tried to turn the focus on her. Maybe if she took the bait she wouldn't notice how big of a dork Zeke really was.

"Oh, hi. Uhm. I'm just...looking for a book."

At that moment in time, those were the words that were able to get a laugh out of Eryn. They were in the library, a place full of books. It didn't seem like there'd be anything else available there. Well, maybe there were a few movies, and other things, but usually a library was where you went to if you needed a book. "A book, eh? Well, I think you're in the right place," she said, trying to hold back a few laughs.

Just when she had almost finished saying that sentence, the boy made a quick attempt to introduce himself. Hmmm, it seemed as if he was trying to cover his little mistake. Eryn understood fully well what he intended to do. There were time's when she had done that as well. No one could help a good blurb.

"I'm Zeke. I haven't seen you around before."

Trying to put those thoughts aside, Eryn nodded at his next comment. He had introduced himself as Zeke, an interesting name. "It's nice to meet you Zeke. I'm Eryn and I haven't seen you around here too. Are you new?" she said, hoping to start a conversation. Eryn wasn't one to really talk to people she didn't know, but this boy had caught her interest. She turned her body so she now faced him, not the books. Maybe today would be a good day.

Zeke managed an awkward laugh as she commented on his book statement. He averted his eyes to his worn out black sneakers shyly. He hated feeling embarassed, but he somehow managed to get himself in this stiuation more than he'd like to admit. Her tone, however, was totally friendly and wasn't condescending in anyway. Upon realizing this, he relaxed and brought his eyes back up to focus on her. The embarassment was dwindiling away, and he was glad that it was.

He nodded as she asked him the question. "Yeah, I'm a newbie. I'm a junior but this is my first year at Laurel," He informed her. He held his gaze on her for a brief moment before turning his attentions to the book shelves in front of him. He eyed the various literature critically, thumbing at a few of the book spines every now and then. Of course, he was looking for a book on World War II, but he seemed to be in the Plays section, because he was only getting an eye full of Shakespeare and other playwrights.

Without looking up, he echoed her question. "Well, what about you? Are you new, too?" He slumped down on the floor, looking at some of the shelves located closer to the ground. He knew that this wasn't getting him anywhere, but he liked to pretend it was. He was stubborn like that. He studied the cover of A Midsummer Night's Dream while he awaited her reply.

"Yeah, I'm a newbie. I'm a junior but this is my first year at Laurel,"

Eryn nodded in agreement. Being new was like a phase for everyone. We all go through it and somehow, we all survive it. Even Eryn, who had been at Laurel since her freshmen year, always felt new every year. It was as if she was the new girl again and honestly, it wasn't a nice feeling. "A newbie? I've been there, but don't worry. You might think twice about it in a few days," she said, reassuringly. She knew exactly how it felt.

"Well, what about you? Are you new, too?"

Eryn hesitated for a while, trying to find the right words to say. Of course she wasn't new, but every year, she couldn't help but feel like she was. She watched him carefully as he moved down to the floor and followed his movements. She sat herself down at the floor, something she usually wouldn't do. "Me? No, I'm not new. I've been here since my freshmen year, but I always feel like a newbie at the start of every year," she said, looking down at the carpeted floor.

Zeke raised an eyebrow at her comment. Been here every year but still felt new? Well, he could understand that. The summer is a long time to forget a place, and this school was rich enough to constantly be adding new buildings and classrooms and other places that one would have to grow accustom to. He nodded at Eryn sympathetically. "Well, I can understand that," He said. He looked up at her and smiled.

He'd given up on pretending like he was busy looking at the books. He was ready to ask for help. With that notion, he hoisted himself onto his feet and used one of the book shelves to steady himself. "Do you remember the library enough to tell me where the history books are? I need something on World War II." He grinned at her, he hoped he was being friendly enough. Or was he over friendly? Was he creeping her out? Zeke always felt this nervous tension around girls, he couldn't help it, it was one of his tragic flaws.

He began to chew on his lower lip, a physical sign that he was nervous. Zeke was accustom to how often he wore his emotions on his sleeve, so this was the one thing he didn’t feel the need to fret and worry over. "So do you like it here?" Zeke wasn't sure where the question came from, or why he asked it. Curiosity? Nothing else to say? He'd never know. What he did know, however, is that he had asked it, and which, in turn, she would probably assume he wanted an answer. Which he did, really, because it'd be nice to get a conversation going with her. She seemed interesting and it'd be neat to have another buddy to hang with at Laurel.

Eryn looked at him and gave him a sincere smile. It was nice to finally meet someone who could understand her. Most people mistake her for being so simple, but in reality, she's more complicated then that. She's has ups and downs. She has those days. So, why do people always think they know Eryn? The answer to that might just be a real mystery.

She looked at Zeke with a blank look on her face. So, what now? They had introduced themselves so what was coming up next? Just as Eryn had lost her hope for a new friendship, Zeke spoke up. Eryn listened carefully and thought out his question. Did she know where the history books were located? Oddly enough, she did. She nodded her head. "I know this library inside and out. I'll show you," she said, getting herself up and taking his hand.

"So do you like it here?"

Eryn looked back at him as he asked her a question. In her own head, Eryn thought about this. Did she really like Laurel Academy? She hesitated before answering. "I guess. I mean, they offer a great education if that's what you're looking for. And the kids here are okay. But to me, it's nothing special. Just another rich school filled mainly with rich kids," she said. All of this was true. She liked it here, but it was nothing too special. Just a normal school.

After walking for what seemed like hours, they arrived at the history section at the library. It was filled with every book based on, well, history. Eryn let go of Zeke's hand, afraid that she had held it too long, and held her hands out, as if presenting the history section of the library. "Well, here it is. History galore," she said, taking a look at what she was referring to.
